Tajik offensive in Rasht Valley

Officials in Tajikistan strongly rejected on May 27 the claim that a large-scale government security operation in the eastern Rasht Valley is related to the pursuit of Tahir Yuldashev, who allegedly has returned from Pakistan. Reports have surfaced (in primarily the Russian news-media) that a large number of insurgents have crossed the border into Tajikistan and are setting their sights on the Ferghana Valley. Dushanbe said in an official announcement that the latest operation in the mountainous region was an anti-drug offensive and nothing else.
