Turkish President Abdullah Gul paid an official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic on May 26 – 28. Speaking to the Kyrgyz parliament, Gul called on the Kyrgyz Republic to actively participate in the stabilization effort in Afghanistan. Many observers, including Kyrgyz parliament deputy Roza Otunbaeva, interpreted this to be a direct appeal to the Kyrgyz government to annul its eviction order of the U.S. presence at Manas Airport.
