Kyrgyzstan: US air hub at Manas busier now than before

The American Air Base in Kyrgyzstan ”the Manas Transit Center” has been operating under its new name since July 14. While its operational capabilities remain basically unchanged, the new lease agreement involves a substantial increase in rent. Proving substance for its name change, the transit center is now busier than months ago, providing logistic, transport and air fueling to support the coalitions operations in Afghanistan. Moreover, Pentagon has showed interest in utilizing Kyrgyzstan’s roads to:”clear supply bottlenecks that are posing logistical challenges for the Afghan war effort”. (Eurasianet)
