Russia, Kyrgyzstan agreement on new military base causes Uzbekistan fury

The agreement reached between Russia and Kyrgyzstan in August, where Russia will place a new military base in southern Kyrgyzstan, is questioned by the Uzbek and Tajik leaders. Finding the base complicating relations among the Central Asian states, the leaders warn that a new base might lead to regional instability. The agreement was announced in the midst of a political dispute between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, stemming from militant attacks in the Ferghana Valley in May, and in recent weeks Uzbekistan has fortified its borders and announced its plans on building a base near Khanabad.
