Tukmenistan opens Iran gas link

Turkmenistan has opened a second gas pipeline to Iran, further diminishing Russia’s domination of its energy sector. Annual gas exports to Iran will be more than doubled with the new facility, and together with the new China pipeline that was opened last month, it seems as Turkmenistan’s gas sales will be much less dependent on Russia as the main buyer. The EU has signaled that it wants to build a gas link that bypasses Russia, but no project has been initiated yet. (BBC News)
