China rejects UN sanctions on Iran

China’s ambassador to the UN, Zhang Yesui, has said the time is not right to consider more sanctions against Iran. The comment comes days after Iran missed an end-of-year deadline set by the US to respond positively on offers of talks about its uranium enrichment program. US officials have previously called for sanctions if Iran would ignore the deadline. However, the diplomatic machinery might take months before a deal is reached at the UN. (BBC News)
