Kyrgyz, Uzbek Officials restart border delimitation

An agreement was reached in December to restart an intergovernmental commission on the delimitation and demarcation of the border, the first meeting after a five- year break. Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan plan to continue working on border documents until April, and there after restart border-delimitation meetings. The two countries currently recognize about 900 kilometers of their joint border, but some 600 kilometers are still in dispute. Over the years numerous border incidents have resulted in violence, and settling the border dispute would ease a lot of tension between the two neigbors. (RFE/RL)
