OSCE Police Mission for Kyrgyzstan Stalls

The deployment of the OSCE police advisory mission, stood for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, in the conflict-stridden southern Kyrgyzstan has to be postponed until late October if it happened at all. Ethnic violence in southern Kyrgyzstan happened in June has coused at least 400 dead and 400,000 displaced. The discriminations against Uzbeks from Kyrgyz security forces escalated since then. Analysts link the delay to the unfavorable domestic politic situation. After the announcement that a Police Advisory Group would be sent by OSCE to train and assist Kyrgyz law enforcement officers, fervent protests stirred in Osh and Bishkek. Internal opposition has forced the provisional president Rosa Otunbayeva to backtrack on the deployment plan concerning the coming parliamentary elections on October 10, 2010. (Eurasianet)
